I and four others are stuck in the conference room, we’ve got an incursion running rampant and three shot-or-blown-to-bits Zulus with no way for the surviving combat autounits to reload or use HVSWs, nor pitfall maneuver, nor the squash-head pistols in the relic room.

11:09:40 [Cpl A.Zhu]

Hello all. Is there ANY way to give the Zulus HVSW allowance? The kinetics aren't going to be effective.
11:10:30 [SrTch Q.Macander]
We can’t! I can’t! Only Provost had the access for approvals that secure. We CANNOT approve HVSWs without at the very least multiple keys (updated every fraction of a millisecond) generated within Provost, and *only* Provost.
11:10:41 [Tch A.Morris]
Sorry I’m here too I’m trying to keep mr. dOpico from passing out
11:11:19 [SrTch Q.Macander]
It’s near impossible to spoof the system anyway even if we tried to generate the keys separately. If we were to attempt to make a keygen ourselves, we’d basically have to make provost entirely from scratch; the whole is greater than its parts. No one *alive in this building* was around when Provost was made and it’d take days to reverse engineer. The only person I remember trying to go that deep into Provost’s source was Jaymie. And, you know...

Can you get a backup of Provost running?
11:11:34 [Tch P.Foreman]
last Provost flash was nine days ago
11:11:45 [Tch P.Foreman]
first we’d need a server big enough for its major systems 2 get it actually running from the flash
11:11:58 [Tch P.Foreman]
then get its chronology back to today’s date and time and i dont know if it can handle that do u remember the last time we had a 10 minute blackout
11:12:03 [Tch P.Foreman]
cause i still get nightmares about that
11:12:15 [Tch P.Foreman]
basically we knew this might be an issue if we ever needed to get provos trunning from a backup so jaymie just said we’d speed the chronology up by like ~1.25x for a few days and that she’d “jury rig” a solution to it if it ever came to this
11:12:22 [SrTch Q.Macander]
We don’t have a few days.
11:12:24 [ARCHIVE]
RE:Foreman, Macander, I have been monitoring this conversation. I believe I can delete unnecessary cache data, as well as remove some older backups (since I am being forced to make an encrypted, compressed archive anyway) and reserve some unoccupied space for a flash of Provost. I am also able to share some of our neural fiber. Unfortunately, I can’t share my Keygen Nucleus as Provost has its own proprietary one. 0.28%
11:12:33 [Tch P.Foreman]
i love you archive i will try 2 allow you to access the backup flash give ,e like 10 minutes
11:12:39 [Tch P.Foreman]
wait first though archive do you have jaymies notes on the provost architecture?
11:12:41 [ARCHIVE]
RE:Foreman, unfortunately the scuttle routine is preventing me from accessing most of my storage network. I can’t look for it at the moment. 0.29%
11:12:51 [Cpl A.Zhu]
You can get it running, but you can’t skip ahead the date? I don’t need to remind you how urgent this is.
11:13:18 [SrTch Q.Macander]
Even messing with the chronology on the lesser sentient constructs can disrupt their behavior in unpredictable ways, and I’ve no idea what it’ll do to a system as advanced as Provost. After power outages or cycles, it will speed itself up very gradually, but that'll take too long in this situation. That’s all saying we can actually get it running on Archive.
11:13:26 [JrTch P.Grzeskowiak]
Why does the date matter so much
11:13:50 [SrTch Q.Macander]
It’s not the date, it’s the point in space-time the key cluster *thinks* it’s at. It would be easy to lock down any two systems to an internal simulation, but changing its point in *time* causes an exponential risk of value drift, since the space-time point affects more than the key cluster. Their neurology is used to movement in different directions in space frequently, but time only goes one way, at one speed. It’s the difference between sleep and a concussion that knocks you unconscious.
11:14:09 [Tch A.Morris]
So every autounit running right now is at January 8th, and December 31sts can’t talk to January 8ths. I’m sorry but if that’s true then what is the backup going to do at all?
11:14:12 [Cpl A.Zhu]
What if you just sent a Zulu “back” nine days?
11:14:55 [SrTch Q.Macander]
Interesting idea. Given the keygen cluster’s entirely deterministic, I think if you reversed the timeflow it would act much the same, yes. I’d have to modify the program to sign the speed float but I don’t think it’d actually break anything. If we push Provost forward to its limit, and the Zulu backwards to its limit, when they meet we can have them lock-and-key.
11:15:04 [Cpl A.Zhu]
    How long will that take?
11:15:25 [SrTch Q.Macander]
I don’t know. Ballpark, maybe two hours? We can push the Zulu faster than we push Provost. We just need to get our hands on one.
11:15:51 [SrTch Q.Macander]
The issue with that is the lockdown and the “visitors” might be blocking my path. Is there any way I can get a side elevator working? Or even the stairs (I don’t want to climb 20 flights of stairs right now.)
11:16:22 [Cpl A.Zhu]
I might actually be able to do that from here. It’s manual and usually in a lockdown scenario Provost would immediately freak out and re-lock them. However, that’s not the case right now. I’ll see what I can do.
11:17:40 [Cpl A.Zhu]
It looks like I can lift some of the shutters on the military floors, but nothing about the stairway access is available to me. I am watching the interlopers break locks off the stair doors right now. They might actually clear the way if they come down to reach you, but of course that introduces other problems.
11:18:21 [Tch P.Foreman]
then what do we do cause a backup would be worthless if it had no way to talk with anything important
11:18:54 [Cpl A.Zhu]
I’m not sure. I’m going to go over every button I can press here. I’m not really an engineer, but I’ve got more “experience” from leading you than any of these military brats.
11:19:10 [Cpl A.Zhu]
Well they’re not all “military brats” but my point stands.
11:19:16 [Cpl A.Zhu]
Apologies. Carmen was looking over my shoulder.

oh mark is still unconscious rory was goign to cauterize the wound but he started throwing up again so i had to do it im not sure if i did it right but hes not bleeding anymore and hes still alive but really pale
12:14:40 [SrTch Q.Macander]
The Zulu was supposed to go into its simulated training world for the duration of its time reversal, but the only way I could do that was to start the simulation *after* we started the timeflow program. I placed a trigger to begin it immediately after the timeflow started reversing, but the Zulu must’ve “skipped” over the trigger to put it in the simulated world, and it just started freaking out.
12:15:08 [Tch A.Morris]
As far as I can tell, the autounit’s timeflow being a triple-digit signed number caused a floating point error which skipped Mr. Macander’s simulation trigger, being `== starttime - 100000` instead of `<= starttime - 100000`.
12:15:10 [Tch P.Foreman]
and the paramedic is not alive he got shot in the head vby the zulu and rory is giving mark water every so often
12:16:37 [SrTch Q.Macander]
Christ, I killed him. I need a bit.
12:16:59 [JrTch P.Grzeskowiak]
Why did you try to bring him to 32
12:17:10 [Tch P.Foreman]

(Corporal Yzaguirre is on her knees in the middle of the hallway. She is dressed for surgery, in scrubs and forearm-length gloves. Her hands are tied together.)
{Unkn. Female 1} But we don't have to kill her.
{Unkn. Female 2} EVERY person that can reasonably contact the Seventh Committee has to go. That’s. Orders.
{Unkn. Female 1} The what?
{Unkn. Female 2} Their bosses. Their... handlers.
{Unkn. Female 1} I didn’t agree to this. They’re not MY orders. And don't you think that if they could contact their bosses they would've done so by now?
Yzaguirre She’s right, we can’t contact them. We have to wait for
(The second woman hits Yzaguirre in the face with the butt of her rifle.)
{Unkn. Female 2} Be quiet. We can’t trust you. And maybe they’re waiting for something. Or they’re just fine on their own, or... it doesn’t matter! We should've never brought you, especially after you let that doctor get past you.
{Unkn. Female 1} No. No! You’re not telling me the truth! Why do you want to kill her? It’s not just the Seventh whatever or what you and the captain were talking about, this is something else.
{Unkn. Female 2} I wouldn’t say your motivations for this were so fucking pure. I’m doing the world a favor. These people don’t deserve to live. If we liberate this place, there’s no room for any one of them.

Um I guess I’m taking over for Mr. Macander for a bit.

I’m having trouble talking to the backup & Archive is being kind of difficult right now. Neither system is taking well to the 5.0x speed-up unfortunately.

SUPERVISOR, can you please register the Provost flash running on Archive to the relay?

Thank you, Supervisor. It’s at about December 31st, at 11:10 last Mr. Macander checked. We’re back up to 30x timeflow which should get us there a bit faster.

{Unkn. Female 2} I said don’t fucking listen to her!
{Unkn. Female 1} No, she knows something! How could she know the captain’s name?
{Unkn. Female 2} It doesn’t matter. You don’t need to know. Everything these people did, it should all be forgotten and buried. Every liaison to the Seventh knows what they did, sitting by the side while hundreds, thousands of people, women, children... You just don’t get it, do you?
{Unkn. Female 1} (Pointing her gun at the second woman.) We can take them prisoner, we can banish them, whatever they did, I’m not going to just let you execute her like an animal. I’m not going to let you.
(A pause.)
{Unkn. Female 1} It's true, isn't it? My sister's dead. (She begins tearing up.) And she killed herself to give us a chance to get in here, and you’re wasting that chance on... this? Revenge? Maybe some bloodshed was necessary, sometimes it’s just the truth of the world. But this isn’t necessary. It just isn’t.
Yzaguirre (Laughing slightly.) Your sister was
(The second woman, glaring at the first, fires a round into Yzaguirre’s head. The corporal slumps to the ground.)
{Unkn. Female 1} No!
(The first woman fires three shots at the other. One hits her right wrist, another hits her forearm. The second woman drops her rifle, clutching her arm with her left hand.)
{Unkn. Female 2} You bitch. You really... I didn’t think you...
(She stumbles, leaning on the wall, blood flowing profusely down her arm.)
{Unkn. Female 1} Why? Why?
(The second woman looks at Yzaguirre’s corpse.)
{Unkn. Female 1} Tell me why. Now, Sara!
(The second woman slides down the wall, falling in a puddle of her own blood. The first woman leans close to the second.)
{Unkn. Female 1} Why?
{Unkn. Female 2}
{Sara}
When I... scouted her lurking at the outskirts of that field, in the pressure suit, I... I thought it was you at first. (She winces.) You know what the Captain’s first idea was when I told him that place had her in it?
(Silence.)
{Sara} He wanted me to kill her right there, and make you infiltrate. I told him it was stupid. Because it was, unless his goal was just to... You’d never forgive him. You’d kill him with your... bare hands. I guess he... I guess he found another way...
{Unkn. Female 1} You didn’t tell me that.
(Sara smiles.)
{Sara} You were right... She wouldn't just leave you, unless... she was given... bad numbers. Everyone that can contact... Everyone that worked so closely with the... Seeing all those bodies and doing... Nothing... Rows and rows of...
(Sara laughs weakly.)
{Sara} “Everyone.” I guess... I guess that includes... me.
{Unkn. Female 1} What?
{Sara} You get it now, don't you?
(A pause.)
{Unkn. Female 1} Sara, what does that mean? Numbers?
(She frowns.)
{Unkn. Female 1} Sara?
{Unkn. Female 1} Sara?

Petra Foreman Fuck do you want?
{Unkn. Female 1}
{Brooklyn Makri}
I’m getting to that! Just be patient. Okay. Short version. I want to help you guys go kill that asshole Rottmund and his mercenary.
Petra Foreman Rottmund?
Rory Dopico Wait, “Makri”?
{Brooklyn Makri} The guy currently running down the stairs of this place trying to shoot your friends and rip your intercontinental wirebox. He killed my sister. I want to help you kill him.
Rory Dopico Your sister? Jaymie? But didn't she... Didn't she blow herself... up...?
{Brooklyn Makri} Yes, but I think she was tricked, and I... accidentally helped. I want to make up for it.
Petra Foreman How do I know this isn't a trap?
{Brooklyn Makri} Here, I'll drop my gun. I'll leave it right by the door. Knife, too. Alright? I'm gonna back up now.
(Brooklyn does as she says, as Petra messages Archive on the relay to confirm that she kept to her word.)
Petra Foreman Hm. I trust you.
(Petra opens the door carefully, hand on the revolver tucked in her jeans.)
Petra Foreman Huh. You look a lot like Jaymie and it's kind of freaking me out.
{Brooklyn Makri} Yeah, I do.
